About The Position

The Mechanic Helper will assist mechanics in overhauling, rebuilding, replacing major and minor assemblies, and components. The incumbent follows instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• One (1) year of verifiable experience in repairing, servicing automotive and heavy equipment
• Experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
• Knowledge of methods, tools, materials and procedures used in the maintenance, and repair of automotive and related equipment
• Knowledge of standard practice and equipment of the automotive mechanic trade
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance and inspection techniques used in automotive repair
• Knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment of the trade
• Knowledge of hazard and safety precautions of the trade (OSHA)
• Knowledge of Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn
• Skills and Abilities: Use of tools and equipment used in automotive repair
• Automotive repair
• Operate automobile scanners and retrieve codes from vehicles
• Diagnose defects in and repair general automotive equipment
• Operate fueling, lubricating, tire changing and related service tools and equipment
• Operate on-call truck to service vehicles in the field
• Follow written and oral instructions
• Perform all physical requirements of the position
• Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications
• Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public
• Sufficient ability to exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions
• Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License

Nice To Haves

• High School Diploma or GED and current enrollment in an automotive repair class from an accredited trade/vocational school or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance inspections, check and replace fluids, check and replace tires, lubricate moving parts, replace burned out lights, check and replace belts and hoses.
• Operate the service truck to pick up auto parts, tow disabled vehicles, and perform minor roadside service repairs as required.
• Road test vehicles and certify mechanical work to ensure they are in a safe running condition.
• Maintain proper supplies and stock levels.
• Prepare records of repair activities, requisitions parts, and materials from fleet control.
• Assure that the work area is clean and orderly.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
