About The Position

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the primary responsibilities of the Fleet Servicer are to perform servicing and cleaning of revenue and non-revenue equipment, including automobiles and buses. This includes fueling vehicles, topping off fluids, cleaning interiors, and documenting any fleet damage. Fleet Servicers are represented by the Teamsters Local Union #542. Per the collective bargaining agreement, the hourly rate for this position is $28.22. Effective October 1, 2026 this will increase to $28.92. This position is distinguished by its ability to work under moderate supervision to prepare vehicles for service at various times of day by ensuring that they are completely fueled and cleaned. In addition, this position will respond to fluid spills in the field as needed. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and exercises no supervisory authority. This position is expected to participate in the sharing of expert cleaning knowledge.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Class B or higher commercial driver's license with passenger and air brakes endorsement within 6 months of employment
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton
  • Ability to obtain a forklift certification within 6 months of hiring
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures utilized in the fueling and cleaning of vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply service manuals from a variety of manufacturers including New Flyer, Cummins, Vansco, Ford, Chevrolet, etc.
  • Ability to safely operate buses or other NCTD vehicles

  • Maintain work environment that is safe, clean, organized, and compliant with NCTD policies and regulatory standards

  • Ability to document in writing all observations during cleaning, fueling, estimates, etc., and to make accurate written requests for parts and recommendations for corrective measures
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and organize workflow to deliver high-quality products within established deadlines
  • Collaborative and flexible “can-do” attitude with a willingness to perform even the most basic tasks
  • Apply personal attention to detail and take pride in “going the extra mile” to achieve success
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including knowledge of the structure and content of the English language such as the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar

  • Positions in this classification are considered safety sensitive under Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol regulations

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, sweeps, vacuums, and mops interior of vehicles
  • Cleans and wipes down interior and exterior areas of vehicles
  • Performs cleanup of bodily fluids from vehicle interiors in accordance with biohazard cleanup protocols
  • Removes gum from floor and surface areas of vehicles
  • Removes graffiti and adhesive stickers from interior and exterior of vehicles
  • Replaces window guards or seat inserts, as needed
  • Connects power source to electric vehicles and removes once fully charged
  • Fuels, checks fluids, cleans interior, and hand washes company equipment assigned non-revenue vehicles
  • Disposes/recycles solid and/or hazardous wastes
  • Sweeps and mops facility work areas, service stations, and yard/ facility
  • Operates buses through the fuel station, bus wash rack, and within the yard/ facility
  • Aligns buses with vacuum system and blows out debris from interior of bus with compressed air wand or uses vacuum equipment to remove debris from interior of bus
  • Dispenses fuels such as unleaded fuel, diesel fuel, and/or Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) into vehicles
  • Checks fluid levels and dispenses fuel, engine oil, and engine coolant
  • Records quantities of fluids dispensed
  • Visually checks condition of tires
  • Removes fare box vault from buses returning from service and empties revenue into safe
  • Parks buses in designated areas of maintenance facility
  • Performs cleanout of blower/vacuum equipment, debris bailor, and trench areas at the fuel station and bus wash rack
  • Uses high temperature pressure equipment to steam clean vehicle engines, transmission, undercarriage, and mechanical components
  • May assist with some light maintenance work as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned
