About The Position

Under general supervision, perform preventative maintenance and servicing on vehicles and equipment, including shop and field repairs, dismount and mount automotive, truck and heavy equipment tires and conduct Texas State Vehicle Inspections. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, inspections, fluid checks, lubrication, part replacements, minor repairs, and assisting with major repairs on various vehicles and equipment. The position also requires refueling vehicles, steam cleaning engines, maintaining accurate work records, and ensuring the cleanliness of the work area. Emergency field repairs and assisting coworkers are also part of the duties. The role requires maintaining an inventory of fuels, oils, and chemicals, and requisitioning parts and supplies.

Requirements

  • MOS Code: 003813 (Navy), 2T317 (Air Force)
  • Two (2) years of vehicle servicing and lubrication experience.
  • Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.
  • Some positions may require a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License with Hazardous Material Endorsement.
  • Some positions may require a State of Texas Vehicle Inspector License within six (6) months of appointment.
  • Positions requiring a CDL, or positions of a safety sensitive nature are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles or equipment in the shop or in the field as assigned.
  • Perform Texas State vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Inspect incoming vehicles and equipment for defects, worn or broken parts or safety issues and log defects, mileage and work performed on work order.
  • Check fluid levels and air in tires, lubricate moving parts, and change coolant, oil, fluids, and filters (oil and fuel).
  • Remove, inspect, install, and replace a variety of parts and items including air filters, batteries, belts, hoses, lights, tires, and wipers.
  • Perform other minor repairs such as brakes, tune-ups, water pumps, alternators, or assist mechanics with major repairs.
  • Perform repairs on other equipment as assigned.
  • Refuel vehicles, monitor tank pressures, and flow rates to ensure proper refueling.
  • Steam clean engines, radiators, and condensers.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop, work area and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with established preventative maintenance schedules and standards.
  • Perform emergency repairs on various types of vehicles in the field.
  • Perform duties of coworkers as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences.
  • Interact with supervisors, suppliers, employees, and other departments.
  • Complete estimates of parts costs for major repairs.
  • Maintain an accurate and adequate inventory of fuels, oils and chemicals transported and dispensed.
  • Requisition parts or supplies in accordance with standard procedures.
