About The Position

The Agency of Transportation is looking for a motivated individual to join our Colchester team as a Fleet Service Technician. This position is eligible for a sign-on and retention bonus of up to $2000! Newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders who are hired into permanent maintenance worker or mechanic job on or after July 13, 2025 are eligible. As of July 12, 2026, the step 1 rate for pay grade 23 will be $28.05 per hour and the step 15 rate will be $43.80 per hour. The work is challenging and the service it provides to the traveling public is rewarding. This shop is responsible for the repair and maintenance of a fleet light and medium duty pickups, heavy duty dump trucks, bucket loaders, backhoes, excavators, trailers and more.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent AND three (3) years or more of experience in the maintenance and service of light, medium, and/or heavy duty vehicles and equipment at the journeyman’s level INCLUDING experience in the installation and service of vehicle and equipment related electronic components.
  • OR Three (3) years or more as a Fleet Technician III.
  • A valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Incumbents must obtain a Commercial Learner’s permit within 60 days of employment.
  • Incumbents must obtain a Vermont State Inspection Mechanic Certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Incumbents must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License, with air-brake certification and tanker endorsement, within six (6) months of employment.
  • Incumbents must provide their own hand-tools.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintenance of a fleet of light and medium duty pickups, heavy duty dump trucks, bucket loaders, backhoes, excavators, trailers and more.
  • Make emergency road repairs at any time of day and in inclement weather.
  • Participate in a random drug and alcohol-testing program once a commercial driver's license is obtained.
