About The Position

The Universal Group, recognized as one of Canada's Best Managed companies in 2025, has an exciting opportunity in our Fleet and Rental team. As a Fleet & Rentals Technician, you play an essential role in supporting the Fleet coordinator on the day-to-day operations of the fleet and rental department. You are integral in assisting with inventory management, property tracking and ensuring the fleet's and facility's overall functionality and cleanliness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with vocational training or certification in automotive technology preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
  • Proven experience in vehicle maintenance and repair would be considered as an asset.
  • Basic construction knowledge would be an asset.
  • Experience in towing trailers would be an asset.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
  • Basic computer skills for record keeping and maintenance software usage.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills for interactions with rental customers.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to emergency repair situations.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues with vehicles and trailers.
  • Ensure that all vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards and address any safety concerns promptly.
  • Deliver trucks and equipment to worksites and vendors.
  • Wash and clean trucks and equipment
  • Assist in roadside safety equipment installations.
  • Organize equipment within the warehouse/yard.
  • Load and unload equipment and tools.
  • Keep accurate records of all the rental assets
  • Ensure that the vehicles and trailers are clean, both inside and out, and presentable to customers for rental services.
  • Assist in the management of rental assets availability, ensuring that assets are ready for customers as scheduled.
  • Provide exceptional customer service when interacting with rental customers, addressing their questions and concerns.
  • Work efficiently to control maintenance and repair costs while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Work closely with other team members, including fleet managers and customer service representatives, to ensure the smooth operation of the fleet, rental services and installations.
  • Provide regular reports on fleet maintenance, vehicle availability, and any issues that may affect the operation of the fleet and rental services.
