About The Position

Perform a wide variety of repairs, maintenance, installations, replacements, preventive maintenance, and diagnostic tasks for various makes and models of delivery vans and refrigeration units. Complete work efficiently, promptly, accurately, professionally, and safely in accordance with company policies and DOT, OSHA, and other governmental standards and regulations. Requirements

• EPA 609 and 608 Type II Certification.
• At least 3 years of experience with transport refrigeration systems.
• Ability to walk and stand safely for extended periods on varied, potentially uneven or slippery surfaces, including outdoors in inclement weather.
• Ability to lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights, up to 50 pounds often and more than 75 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to walk, reach above the head, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel as needed to perform job duties.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Must supply own mechanic tools, including a 1/4-inch through 1/2-inch drive socket set and wrenches up to 1 inch, or metric equivalents, needed for van repairs.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five or more years of refrigeration, van repair, and maintenance experience.
• Technical training in mechanics, welding, body repair, and door repair.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair direct-drive and self-contained electric refrigeration units on vans, determine needed repairs, and complete repairs such as flushing systems, replacing compressors after catastrophic failure, and making and replacing refrigerant hoses.
• Evacuate and recharge refrigeration systems using manifold gauges and a micron gauge.
• Set or adjust the Compressor Pressure Regulator (CPR) or Suction Pressure Regulator (SPR).
• Recover refrigerant from systems and recharge them after repairs are complete.
• Solder using soft and silver solder.
• Read and follow wire schematics for electrical repairs.
• When refrigeration work is unavailable, repair or rebuild equipment components such as hydraulic brakes, ABS, suspensions, doors, electrical systems, lights, and interior and exterior bodywork.
• Perform equipment safety inspections and prepare safety documentation.
• Create and complete work orders in maintenance software, accurately describe work performed, and charge inventory parts used to the work order.
• Follow company policies and procedures when making repairs.
• Access equipment areas as necessary to perform maintenance, including inspecting and working in, on, or under van components.
• Maintain shop cleanliness, safety, and compliance.
• Work in accordance with DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA, and other applicable rules and regulations.
• Maintain knowledge of equipment and technologies that enhance Kroger’s productivity.
• Participate in company and/or vendor training programs.
• Maintain flexibility to work outside the scheduled shift if needed.
• Work cooperatively in fast-paced and sometimes stressful environments and manage conflict reasonably, nonconfrontationally, and cooperatively.
