About The Position

Ryder is looking for an Operations Supervisor to lead our second shift team at our Albany, NY fleet maintenance location. In this role, you will work alongside our Operations Manager to oversee daily shop operations, lead a team of technicians and service employees, and ensure our customers stay on the road. This is a visible, high-impact position with a clear path toward the Operations Manager role for the right candidate.

Requirements

  • Computer proficient and quick to learn fleet management systems.

  • Must be available and committed to second shift hours (3:00 PM -- 11:30 PM).
  • H.S. diploma/GED required.
  • Associate's degree preferred or 1-3 years or more experience in a maintenance operations environment required. Demonstrated success in a Ryder role may be substituted for this requirement.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or 1-3 years or more experience in a maintenance operations environment required. Demonstrated success in a Ryder role may be substituted for this requirement.
  • Maintenance and Technical experience in a shop environment required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with a Shop Management System preferred.
  • Microsoft Office intermediate preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in mechanical services, warehousing, or fleet/transportation operations is a plus.
  • Strong vehicle diagnostics/repair knowledge (preferred).
  • Associate's degree preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with a Shop Management System preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and assign work to technicians to maximize productivity and vehicle uptime.
  • Triage unscheduled customer drive-ins and communicate vehicle status updates in real time.
  • Conduct yard checks to keep work prioritized and on track.
  • Review and approve repair orders and ensure warranty procedures are followed.
  • Lead, coach, and develop your shift team, including Technicians-in-Charge, Customer Service Coordinators, Technicians, and Service Employees.
  • Manage performance, provide feedback, and support team growth.
  • Run shift meetings to align the team and set priorities.
  • Build strong customer relationships and resolve issues quickly to protect satisfaction and retention.
  • Oversee parts inventory, vehicle specifications, and shop tooling needs.
  • Maintain vehicle appearance standards and ensure all assets are properly documented.
  • Inspect completed PMs and repairs, and conduct in-process reviews on non-PM work.
  • Perform breakdown root cause analysis and drive corrective action.
  • Keep the shop floor compliant with all safety, EPA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Help the shift deliver against Net Maintenance Cost per Unit targets without cutting corners on quality or safety.
  • Manage payroll, purchase orders, and invoice and fuel reconciliation.
  • Identify and execute bill-back opportunities and maintain data integrity in Shop Management Online.
