About The Position

This position performs skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of City Vehicles and various associated equipment. This work is performed under the direction of the Fleet Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge in diesel engine repair, heavy equipment, auto repair, or welding
  • Valid Wisconsin CDL is required with B, C, and D with air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 3 years of vocational schooling in diesel engine repair, heavy equipment, auto repair, or welding
  • ASE Certification
  • Experience in welding (rod and wire feed), cutting torches, plasma cutters, braising, hydraulics and pneumatics, or a combination of schooling, training, and/or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, maintain, and troubleshoot various vehicles and heavy equipment (e.g., graders, loaders, plow trucks, recycling trucks).
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, clutches, and related systems.
  • Adjust and calibrate components such as brakes, engines, and hydraulic/electrical systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (e.g., oil changes, tune-ups, filter replacements, inspections).
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records for all equipment.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and availability for on-call emergency response.
