About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing the company’s fleet of delivery trucks, tractors, trailers, and support vehicles. This role ensures that all vehicles meet safety, regulatory, and operational standards to support the timely and efficient delivery of products throughout the market area. The position operates in a unionized work environment, adhering to all collective bargaining agreements, policies, and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in diesel or automotive repair preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a mechanic working with diesel trucks, trailers, and related equipment (beverage distribution or similar industry experience a plus).
  • Valid New York State driver’s license; CDL Class A required.
  • DOT inspection certification a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, CNG engines, EV engines, transmissions, braking systems, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to use diagnostic equipment and repair tools effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime, as required by operational needs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and inspections on fleet vehicles, including oil changes, brake repairs, tire replacements, and safety checks.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on trucks, trailers, and support equipment.
  • Conduct Department of Transportation (DOT) required inspections and ensure all vehicles meet federal, state, and city compliance standards.
  • Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns and provide emergency roadside repairs when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Fleet Manager and dispatch teams to prioritize vehicle repairs and minimize downtime.
  • Operate shop tools and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment consistent with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in fleet reliability and safety.
