About The Position

The Sr Fleet Mechanic is responsible for ensuring a safe and reliable fleet by performing preventative maintenance and proper repairs on all fleet equipment. This role involves troubleshooting, diagnosing, rebuilding, replacing, and completing all required repairs on diesel equipment such as tractors, trailers, bobtails, reefers, and lift gates. The position requires adherence to company standards for preventative maintenance, accurate documentation of repairs, and handling road service calls. A strong safety culture, newer equipment, and excellent local leadership are highlighted as key aspects of the work environment. The role also includes maintaining a clean and safe work area, managing inventory, and potentially backing up other maintenance shop personnel.

Requirements

  • 5 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty commercial diesel mechanic.
  • Diagnostic and troubleshooting ability using fleet maintenance software.
  • Successfully demonstrated independent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must furnish own personal hand tools.
  • Ability to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations pertaining to the shop and fleet.
  • Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to communicate with co-workers and drivers with demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs.
  • Computer and software experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • JPRO software experience.
  • Welding ability
  • Knowledge with electrical schematics
  • Basic Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
  • Leadership experience or qualifications
  • Valid Class A CDL license and DOT certification
  • EPA 608 (Type 2 or Universal) certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance within company standards.
  • Complete documentation of all repair orders, PM list and parts accountability.
  • Handle road service calls; perform road rescue/transport equipment as needed.
  • Keep track of assigned repairs by logging in and out of the software system.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with workplace safety rules and regulations and government guidelines.
  • Maintain inventory and proper recordkeeping.
  • Backup to other maintenance shop personnel.
  • Willingness and capacity to assume increased responsibility and Certifications.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
