About The Position

Join our dynamic team as a Fleet Mechanic Assistant, specializing in Fleet and Facility Maintenance! In this energetic role, you'll be a vital part of ensuring our fleet operates smoothly and our facilities stay in top condition. You will support the Department with tasks to ensure a safe work environment while adhering to safety and DOT regulations. Under the direction of the department manager, individuals in this role will be responsible to assist mechanics with company vehicles and equipment repairs, run diagnosis and maintenance, facility maintenance and general building repairs, manage inventory and service record books, pickup and deliver parts and assist with onsite troubleshooting. Individuals in this role must possess a valid Driver’s License with good driving record, organizational skills and the ability to operate manual and power tools and read and communicate technical instructions.

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a mechanic assistant or similar is highly preferred
  • Strong mechanical knowledge across various vehicle types including heavy equipment, farm machinery, and industrial equipment
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering techniques, and basic fabrication skills
  • Familiarity with schematics for electrical wiring and mechanical systems troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of automotive diagnostics software and electrical systems troubleshooting techniques
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance tasks like tire service, brake repair, alignment adjustments, and suspension work
  • Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with team members and clients when needed
  • Capable of heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during repairs or installations
  • Degree, certification or experience in automotive service and maintenance
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues
  • Logical thinking and ability to make safe decisions
  • Ability to use power tools and hand tools efficiently with basic knowledge of building maintenance or repair
  • Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled mechanical shop with moderate or loud noise level
  • Attention to detail ensuring accuracy in record-keeping and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to work independently, following instructions and completing tasks with minimal supervision
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to operate software for record-keeping, communication and other tasks
  • Prolonged periods standing, bending or working in awkward positions and performing repetitive movements.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp and lift heavy objects.
  • Moving throughout the building, walking up and down stairs to perform daily tasks.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating heavy machinery such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, or tractor-trailers is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles, including trucks, tractors, trailers, and farm machinery using hand tools and power tools
  • Assist with diagnostics on automotive systems such as transmissions, air brakes, hydraulics, suspension, HVAC systems, and diesel engines
  • Help perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks like tire service, brake repairs, shocks & struts replacement, wheel alignments, and fluid checks
  • Contribute to equipment fabrication and assembly projects involving heavy machinery like excavators, cranes, forklifts, and industrial equipment
  • Read and interpret schematics for troubleshooting electrical systems and complex mechanical components
  • Support the repair and maintenance of facility equipment including HVAC units and other industrial systems
  • Participate in heavy lifting tasks safely while adhering to safety protocols during repairs or installations
  • Manage inventory and service record books
  • Pickup and deliver parts
  • Assist with onsite troubleshooting
