About The Position

The Fleet Manager is responsible for creating and modifying driver schedules to ensure efficient customer delivery, monitoring fuel usage, determining trip and vehicle assignments, and supervising drivers to ensure safety. This role involves coordinating daily terminal activities, processing customer orders, and ensuring drivers adhere to company policies and safety regulations. The Fleet Manager must also independently investigate and resolve customer complaints, interpret company policies, and resolve driver complaints, recommending disciplinary action when necessary. Attendance and participation in monthly safety meetings, including presenting on a topic, are also required. The role emphasizes reinforcing safety compliance with drivers during all aspects of their work.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify drivers’ schedules independently as dictated by customer needs and to ensure the most efficient delivery to customers.
  • Monitor fuel usage and make independent decisions about when and where to deliver fuel, including decisions regarding diverting loads, cancelling deliveries and adding deliveries as needed.
  • Determine number of trips and vehicles to run, assign drivers and equipment to runs.
  • Supervise drivers including ensuring the safety of drivers' loads.
  • Coordinate daily terminal activities by taking customer delivery orders via, telephone, fax or in person.
  • Review and complete the order process and prepare the schedules for local and long-distance moves.
  • Ensure that drivers follow direction of Logistic Supervisors with respect to load diversions and changes to routes.
  • Use judgment in determining whether a driver appears fit for duty and send drivers home who do not appear capable of working safely.
  • Comply with all Federal, State and local rules & regulations.
  • Aid drivers in locating difficult addresses.
  • Independently investigate and resolve customer complaints.
  • Interpret and enforce company policies.
  • Resolve driver complaints.
  • Recommend disciplinary action of drivers to Logistics Manager or Terminal Manager.
  • Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings.
  • Present on a topic at safety meetings (times may vary).
  • Reinforces compliance of company safety policy with drivers while loading, unloading and driving.
  • Monitor critical error reports related to roll stability and hard braking, coordinate driver review with terminal manager.
