About The Position

The Fleet Manager (Night Dispatch) is responsible for creating and modifying driver schedules to meet customer needs and ensure efficient deliveries. This role involves monitoring fuel usage, making independent decisions about fuel delivery, load diversions, and delivery changes. The Fleet Manager will determine the number of trips and vehicles required, assign drivers and equipment, and supervise drivers to ensure load safety and compliance with regulations. They will coordinate daily terminal activities, process customer orders, and prepare schedules for local and long-distance moves. The position requires ensuring drivers follow directions regarding route changes and assessing driver fitness for duty, sending home those who appear unsafe. The Fleet Manager must also investigate and resolve customer complaints, interpret and enforce company policies, and reinforce safety policies with drivers.

Requirements

Strong oral presentation skills
Strong to intermediate computer skills
Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently
Ability to work on a salary basis with a non-standard schedule and fluctuating hours.
Dispatch experience highly preferred

Responsibilities

Create and modify drivers’ schedules independently as dictated by customer needs and to ensure the most efficient delivery to customers.
Monitor fuel usage and make independent decisions about when and where to deliver fuel, including decisions regarding diverting loads, cancelling deliveries and adding deliveries as needed.
Determine number of trips and vehicles to run, assign drivers and equipment to runs.
Supervise drivers including ensuring the safety of drivers' loads.
Coordinate daily terminal activities by taking customer delivery orders via, telephone, fax or in person.
Review and complete the order process and prepare the schedules for local and long-distance moves.
Ensure that drivers follow direction of Fleet Managers with respect to load diversions and changes to routes.
Use judgment in determining whether a driver appears fit for duty and send drivers home who do not appear capable of working safely.
Comply with all Federal, State and local rules & regulations.
Aid drivers in locating difficult addresses.
Independently investigate and resolve customer complaints.
Interpret and enforce company policies.
Reinforces compliance of company safety policy with drivers while loading, unloading and driving.
