About The Position

The City of Turlock is accepting applications for the Part-Time Fleet Maintenance Worker position within the Municipal Services Department. This role involves assisting Fleet Staff with equipment maintenance, repairs, and general housekeeping duties. The city will only consider the first 35 applications submitted, and the job announcement may close without prior notice.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of minor maintenance of automotive and other equipment.
  • Knowledge of oils, greases, and lubrication devices, and other tools and materials used in servicing equipment.
  • Knowledge of methods and materials used in cleaning and washing automotive equipment.
  • Ability to learn to perform minor mechanical maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to lubricate a wide variety of mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read manufacturer's lubrication charts.
  • Ability to identify automotive parts and supplies.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Ability to maintain servicing records.
  • Six (6) months of experience involving automotive, light duty and heavy-duty equipment maintenance.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.
  • Must provide a copy of High School Diploma or GED Certificate at time of application.
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid California Driver's License at the time of appointment, to be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
  • See well enough to read, write and make observations, operate hand and power tools, vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Hear well enough to converse on the radio, telephone and in person.
  • Bodily mobility to walk, bend, stand, crouch or climb for extended periods of time, operate assigned equipment and vehicles and perform heavy manual labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme fluctuations in temperature while performing essential functions.
  • Ability to lift equipment as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • A copy of a College Degree from an accredited and regionally accepted institution will be accepted in lieu of a High School Diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Lubricate equipment with the use of lubrication tools.
  • Inspect, charge, and replace batteries.
  • Change and repair tires on light and heavy equipment.
  • Wash and otherwise keep shop and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • May assist Fleet Maintenance Mechanics in mechanical and repair work.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Benefits

  • Sick Leave: An employee who, on or after July 1, 2015, works for 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment is entitled to paid sick leave. Paid sick leave accrues at the rate of one hour per every 30 hours worked. Accrual shall begin on the first day of employment or July 1, 2015, whichever is later. Paid sick leave shall carry over to the following year of employment and is capped at 80 hours or ten days.
