About The Position

LYNX is seeking a Maintenance Training Instructor to lead, develop, and deliver engaging technical training programs that empower our maintenance team to keep Central Florida moving safely and efficiently. In this impactful role, you'll combine your hands-on maintenance expertise with your ability to train, mentor, and inspire technicians at all levels. From developing training materials and conducting hands-on instructions to evaluating program effectiveness and supporting regulatory compliance, you'll play a key role in building a highly skilled workforce that supports one of the region's largest public transportation systems. This position develops, coordinates, implements, conducts and evaluates training programs for maintenance personnel in the proper service, repair and maintenance of buses, support vehicles, and shop equipment. This position is considered safety-sensitive and subject to the provisions of the Substance Abuse Program Policy for Safety Sensitive Positions.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in automotive or diesel technology or related field, plus four years of experience working in heavy vehicle maintenance to include two years of experience conducting training programs; or combination of related experience, education and training.
  • Additional directly related experience beyond the minimum requirement may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must possess and maintain a Florida Class “B” CDL with airbrakes and passenger endorsement, or be able to obtain one within 6 months, have an acceptable driving record, and the ability to pass a DOT physical examination and drug screen.
  • Knowledge of training theory, methods of presentation, theories of learning, appropriate modes of presentation and other related training issues for adult‐learners.
  • In‐depth knowledge of all heavy vehicle and facilities systems pertinent to the Authority’s vehicles to include, but not limited to, mechanical systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, HVAC, brake systems, multiplexed systems, electrical/electronic systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of tool usage, problem diagnostics and test processes.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety rules, regulations, including, but not limited to US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, CFR Title 49 and Florida Administrative Code 14‐90, hazardous materials handling and storage regulations as applied to bus maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the principles of preventive maintenance and keeps abreast of new technologies and methodologies in the vehicle maintenance field.
  • Ability to develop clear, concise and effective curricula, schedules, course materials, audio/visual aids, administrative and technical procedures.
  • Ability to work from and understand verbal instruction, blueprints, schematics, diagrams, vendor manuals and manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Knowledge of software to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), audio/visual equipment, maintenance reporting system, web‐based vendor/OEM troubleshooting trees, computer based diagnostic tools and other various test/troubleshooting tools.
  • Ability to learn and implement provisions of the Authority’s bargaining agreement with ATU Local 1596 and ATU Local 1749.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with those encountered in the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a presenter/facilitator of leadership and technical training, or previous training experience in a transportation or technical field.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Consults with Maintenance department leadership for input in developing maintenance training programs.
  • Delivers effective training programs by applying strong presentation, training and facilitation skills, and delivering feedback to learners; develops action plans and measures the impact to the organization.
  • Prepares, plans, organizes and conducts maintenance training needs assessments and analyses, lesson plans, course curricula, visual and mechanical aides, written materials and hands‐on instruction that complies with internal procedures and external mandates or regulations.
  • Participates as a resource to maintenance management on safety, technical proficiency and productivity issues, and works with the safety division to develop and implement programs compliant with state and national regulations, to promote the safety and well‐being of Authority employees.
  • Coordinates, evaluates and monitors internal and external vendor training programs.
  • Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of training programs by measuring changes in skill levels and improvements demonstrated by maintenance personnel and modifies programs accordingly to improve effectiveness to the quality vehicle maintenance training programs.
  • Ensures that all training materials are updated as needed, for new equipment, new procedures, technical information, etc.
