This position is responsible for performing skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of City fleet vehicles and equipment. The role involves repairing, rebuilding, and troubleshooting a variety of City-owned vehicles and equipment, including electric vehicles, trucks, automobiles, police cars, firefighting vehicles, plows, sanders, other snow removal equipment, utility trucks, heavy equipment, and landscaping equipment. Responsibilities include diagnosing and repairing various vehicle systems, performing emergency field repairs, fabricating tools or parts, inspecting vehicles for compliance, and conducting tire and wheel services. The position also entails performing basic and preventative maintenance, shop cleanup, and potentially assisting in snow removal operations. Additionally, the technician will manage parts inventory when functioning as the sole department mechanic, prepare and enter work orders, and document repair information using a fleet software system.
