About The Position

Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring both entry level and experienced deckhands onboard to support our fleeting operations in East Carondelet and Sauget, IL. This role involves assisting the deck crew in tow building, daily vessel housekeeping, assisting with locking, carrying rigging, working outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions, checking barges for water and leaks (which may require climbing into confined spaces), upkeep of vessel appearance, assisting the Engineer, practicing safe crew/vessel/tow operation, participating in safety drills and audits, and performing other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Must have Drivers Licenses and a Valid TWIC card.
  • Must be able to read and write the English language in order to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
  • Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole
  • Be able to climb a ladder and able to board and ride in a skiff

Responsibilities

  • Assisting deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges)
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assisting with locking
  • Carrying rigging (ratchets, wires and straps) pumps, hoses and lines
  • Working outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow
  • Checking barges for water and leaks – which at times requires climbing into confined spaces
  • Upkeep of vessel appearance includes sooging (washing), chipping and painting
  • Assisting the Engineer as requested
  • Practicing safe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participating in safety drills and audits
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested
