About The Position

As a Flatbed Specialist, you will be responsible for developing and managing a network of flatbed, step deck, Conestoga, and specialized carriers to support customer freight needs. This role focuses on building long-term carrier relationships, securing capacity, negotiating rates, and ensuring successful execution of flatbed shipments from pickup through delivery. Leveraging your flatbed market expertise, you will serve as a key resource for both customers and internal teams by identifying capacity solutions, improving service performance, and maximizing profitability. This is not a remote position.

Requirements

  • 2+ year of prior carrier sales experience with direct flatbed exposure
  • Strong understanding of flatbed market dynamics, carrier networks, equipment types, and pricing strategies
  • Flexible; ability to change focus quickly to meet demands of market conditions and/or company needs
  • Able to multi-task and manage multiple software systems

Responsibilities

  • Source, develop, and manage relationships with flatbed and other specialized carriers
  • Provide and negotiate freight rates with carriers and internal sales teams to maximize profitability while maintaining service standards
  • Coordinate customer freight with available carrier equipment and capacity across open deck modes
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on flatbed transportation, including market conditions, equipment requirements, securement considerations, permits, and specialized freight needs
  • Build and maintain a network of carrier partners capable of supporting both transactional and dedicated freight opportunities
  • Collaborate with Customer Sales and Operations teams to develop capacity solutions for customer freight
  • Communicate with carriers to provide shipment updates, resolve service issues, and ensure successful execution
  • Manage carrier performance through service metrics, lane performance, and relationship development
  • Verify freight charges, confirm receipt of required documentation, and resolve discrepancies prior to payment
  • Identify new carriers, lanes, and capacity opportunities on an ongoing basis to strengthen the network
  • Maintain visibility throughout the shipment lifecycle from booking through delivery and POD
  • Be available outside the office for urgent issues requiring attention
  • Work assigned weekend shifts (1-2 max per quarter), primarily on a Saturday
  • Other duties as assigned
