About The Position

The Flat Grinder Operator is responsible for running multiple grinding/milling machines effectively and efficiently on a continuous basis. This role involves identifying production problems, positioning work pieces, and inspecting parts daily using various inspection equipment. The position also includes performing required operations on grinding/milling machines, loading and unloading parts, wheel preparation and changing, cleaning, and performing preventive maintenance and minor adjustments on assigned equipment. Additionally, the operator will prepare logs and records, enter data into the computer, move parts to appropriate locations, and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area. The role requires reviewing various documents such as travelers, shift reports, SOPs, and safety sheets, as well as preparing labor sheets and non-conformance forms. Interaction with supervisors, co-workers, and other shop personnel is expected. The operator will use grinders, micrometers, gauges, power tools, and computers.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate a high ability in the area of machining
  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must meet the ITAR definition of US Person(s)
  • Must have an understanding of the machining process
  • Must be able to run parts to spec on a daily basis on multiple machines
  • Must be able to read simple part drawings
  • Must be able to use and read micrometers and dial calipers accurately
  • Must be able to calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English
  • Must be able to communicate information clearly verbally and in writing in English
  • Perform any other task management deems necessary or needed by the company
  • Successful results of pre-employment drug testing will be required

Nice To Haves

  • 1-5 years’ experience in conventional machining such as Grinding, milling, drilling, and turning
  • Previous relevant machining experience or education/training in machining- 2+ years preferred

Responsibilities

  • Set up and switch jobs as required
  • Perform tasks efficiently and within standard time allotment
  • Keep track of materials in the area
  • Minor maintenance of machine
  • Maintain an excellent attendance record
  • Verify all parts are conforming before signing off on traveler
  • Keep track of all scrap and seek corrective actions when necessary
  • Run and maintain the function of 2+ machines in a cell
  • Maintain all inspection gauges and tooling as required
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required
  • Function effectively within a team environment
  • Adhere to AS9100 and other quality standards

Benefits

  • A 10% shift differential will be added to the base hourly rate.
