About The Position

Flagship Pioneering is seeking extraordinary, early-career scientists, technologists, engineers, and physicians for its 2027 class of Flagship Pioneering Fellows. This immersive fellowship allows participants to engage in Flagship's unique company creation process. Fellows will work in teams, combining their scientific and technical expertise with creativity and AI tools to generate novel scientific and technology concepts. The program focuses on iterating and shaping these ideas into compelling hypotheses with the potential to launch pioneering new ventures. The fellowship emphasizes curiosity, creativity, and the drive to transform bold ideas into reality, with the goal of creating entirely new companies from the ground up. It is an intense and exciting opportunity to learn Flagship's approach to building breakthrough companies. Fellows will learn and implement Flagship Pioneering’s process for generating and refining venture hypotheses, develop creativity and adaptability in a fast-paced environment, explore ideas with the potential for breakthrough companies, and work at the frontier of polyintelligence by integrating AI with scientific instincts. They will also have opportunities to network with experienced members of the Flagship team and its ecosystem, and explore full-time opportunities within Flagship Pioneering and its affiliated companies. Applicants with AI/ML experience should apply through the general Fellowship track, as there is no longer a separate AI/ML application track.

Requirements

Deep expertise in any scientific or technical field: biology, chemistry, agriculture, engineering, materials science, etc. - or research or industry expertise applying AI/ML to any of these fields
Broad scientific interests and the ability to quickly ask provocative questions in any scientific or technical domain
Completed or within the final year of a professional scientific degree (PhD, MD, or international equivalent)
Comfort with scientific uncertainty and ambiguity of outcomes combined with a history using rigorous science to pursue creative solutions to challenging problems
Demonstrated leader, effective communicator, and strong team player

Responsibilities
