Flagging Traffic Control Apprentice
About The Position
The Traffic Control Apprentice at Southeastern Traffic Supply, a Helix Traffic Solutions company, helps maintain safe and efficient traffic flow around construction zones, road work, and other temporary disruptions. The role protects workers, motorists, and pedestrians by following established traffic control procedures and safety guidelines. It is a full-time, in-person position involving outdoor work at active construction zones, travel to various job sites, and a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and overtime. Training is provided, and no prior experience is required.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong communication skills; communicate clearly, firmly, and professionally.
- Ability to stay alert and focused in high-traffic environments.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Dependable, professional attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (8+ hours).
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions and performing repetitive physical tasks.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
- Reliable transportation is required.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior traffic control experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic using signs, paddles, and flags.
- Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control zones, including cones, barricades, and signage.
- Communicate clearly with drivers to support safe and orderly traffic flow.
- Monitor work zones and traffic patterns to identify and respond to potential hazards.
- Coordinate with team members and supervisors using radios and hand signals.
- Follow safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Alert crew members to unsafe conditions or non-compliant drivers.
- Assist with loading and unloading traffic control equipment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
