About The Position

C.J. Hughes Construction Co., Inc. is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious individual to join our Flagging Department as a Flagger / Traffic Control Technician. This position is responsible for assisting with traffic control operations to ensure the safe and efficient movement of vehicles around construction sites. The ideal candidate will have a strong awareness of safety, the ability to work outdoors in various conditions, and a commitment to supporting both crew and public safety.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Must provide documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility in accordance with federal I-9 requirements
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
  • Willingness to travel and work in different areas as needed
  • Commitment to following all safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor
  • Ability to work overtime and extended hours based on workload
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent standing for extended periods of time
  • Bending, kneeling, reaching, and crouching as needed
  • Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor conditions

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • ATSSA Flagger Certification preferred or willingness to obtain
  • Previous flagging or traffic control experience preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of traffic control procedures and safety practices
  • Ability to communicate clearly with crew members, equipment operators, and the public
  • Strong attention to detail and situational awareness
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a team
  • Reliable, dependable, and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work in fast-paced and potentially hazardous environments

Responsibilities

  • Direct traffic using hand signals, stop/slow paddles, and signage to safely manage flow through construction zones
  • Coordinate with other flaggers using two-way radios to manage alternating traffic patterns
  • Communicate with construction crews regarding traffic conditions that may impact job site safety
  • Set up and remove traffic control devices including signs, cones, barricades, and warning devices
  • Follow traffic control plans and supervisor instructions to ensure compliance and safety
  • Maintain strong awareness of surroundings, especially when working in the red zone around heavy equipment
  • Perform physical labor including lifting, carrying, and setting up traffic control equipment
  • Adapt to various job sites, schedules, and travel requirements
  • Work safely around moving traffic and active construction environments
  • Maintain productivity while always prioritizing safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
