About The Position

This position is responsible for flagging traffic and performing other duties related to road maintenance and construction. The role involves operating and maintaining equipment used for road maintenance, and assisting in the construction and repair of county roads and bridges. The employee must be able to communicate allowable traffic movements to the motoring public.

Requirements

At least one year of experience.
Class C Driver’s License (valid).
Ability to operate equipment used in road construction and maintenance.
Ability to service and make minor repairs on equipment.
Ability to apply safety standards to prevent hazards.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions.
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers.
Maintain valid Texas driver’s license applicable to job responsibilities.
Must be able to communicate allowable traffic movements to motoring public.

Nice To Haves

Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement.

Responsibilities

Operates various types of equipment for county road maintenance and construction projects, including steel roller, pneumatic roller, boom mower and tractor.
Maintains equipment, including checking oil, water, fuel tires and hydraulic system, and making appropriate adjustments.
Smooths road surfaces.
Clears ditches and culverts.
Mows ditches and right of way as needed.
Assists with basic maintenance of fences and bridges.
Performs work with hand tools, including digging trenches, cutting down trees and brush, and removing driftwood and debris from culverts and right of way.
Directs traffic at work sites as needed.
Assists with patching, tapping, packing, and leveling cold mix, dirt, or other materials during road repair.
Loads standard had tools.
Must be able to communicate allowable traffic movements to motoring public.
Other Duties as assigned.
