About The Position

Under the instructions of the KWW department, the Fixer checks the tightness of warps and the correctness of yarn synchronization on all machines. This role involves stopping machines as necessary to repair them, checking parts for wear when top warps are removed, and inspecting the overall machine for oil leakage. The Fixer performs comprehensive checks of the machine as outlined on the “fixer’s check card” when bottom warps are removed. They address problems beyond the operator's capability, which may include replacing needles, yarn guides, or sley points, tightening warps, and correcting machine vibration. If repairs are extensive or complex, the Fixer notifies the shift supervisor. Standard performance requires the Fixer to run at least thirty-six knitting machines. The role demands professional repair and/or replacement of parts, calculation and programming of computerized electronic let offs, and monitoring machines for runner length, course count, and performance. The Fixer also assists with pattern wheel or chain changes, restarts machines, and supports service persons with duties like doffing and warp changing. Additionally, they assist threaders and knitters when available.

Requirements

• Understanding of textile manufacturing methods and defects
• Problem solving skills with an in-depth knowledge of 8D and Practical Problem Solving (PPS).
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• PC skills to include MS Excel/Word, PowerPoint, and Basics.
• Understanding of Lean improvement methods – Standardized work, 5S, SMED, seven forms of waste, visual management, and Andon.
• AIAG tools APQP, PFMEA/CP, SPC etc.

• Ability to read, write, and speak and understand in English, to interpret documents such as specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, reports, business correspondence, regulatory and procedure manuals.

Responsibilities

• Checks the tightness of warps at each doff and correctness of yarn synchronization on all machines.
• Stops machines as necessary to repair them.
• Checks parts for wear when top warps are removed for replacement and overall machine for oil leakage.
• Performs prescribed comprehensive check of machine as outlined on “fixer’s check card” when bottom warps are removed for replacement.
• Ascertains the nature of problems beyond the capability of the operator and attempts the repair.
• Replaces broken needles, wear yarn guides or bent sley points, tightens loose warps, and corrects machine vibration.
• Notifies the shift supervisor if repairs require an extended period or if the problem cannot be determined or repaired.
• Repairs and/or replaces parts in a professional manner.
• Calculates and programs computerized electronic let offs.
• Monitors machines for runner length, course count, performance, etc.
• Assists with the change of pattern wheels or chains at style change and restarts the machine.
• Assists in service persons duties when needed (Doffing, warp changing, repairing beam shafts, etc.).
• Assists the threaders and knitters when available.
• Follows all safety standards while ensuring the team follows all safety standards.
• Achieves stated results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
• Eliminates waste from the process in all its forms to improve Safety; Quality, Cost (raw material usage, labor, energy) and machine overall efficiency (downtime analysis).
• Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process; setting processing variables; observing control points and equipment; monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions; developing reporting procedures and systems; facilitating corrections to malfunctions within process control points; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
• Completes production plan on time and to target, by scheduling and assigning personnel; establishing priorities; monitoring progress; revising schedules; resolving problems; reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries.
• Works with the Launch/Product Engineering team to ensure all new product meet internal and external customer requirements.
• Ensures all product changes are controlled effectively through the engineering change process or deviation.
• Maintains quality by establishing and enforcing organizational standards. Has the authority to stop processing if the material quality is not to standard. Teach and enforce Stop-Call-Wait.
• Ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs, evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Provides manufacturing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data, answering questions, and responding to requests.
• Creates/revises systems and procedures by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and personnel requirements, implementing change through deviation or ECR.
• Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures (Safety, Quality and 5S).
• Regular involvement with the Safety & IATF Coordinator(s) to meet the requirements of the safety program (risk assessments, audits, LPAs, & etc.) and reporting identified issues appropriately.
• Completes and achieves effective Accident/Incident investigations.
• Maintains staff by selecting, training, and mentoring employees.
• Manages Production personnel, schedule and communicates updates to supporting team members (QC, Mechanical Support, and Purchasing).
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge.
• Drives & promotes Kaizens through the team, supports and drives all department six sigma/lean initiatives.
• Completes knowledge and understanding of Dyeing specifications and ensures adherence.
• Completes knowledge and understanding of the product boundaries and shade equipment.
• Maintains accurate, legible audit data.
• Completes all forms according to procedures.
• Segregates any product that does not meet specification.
• Reports any deviations from specification to the Senior Quality/Process Engineer and Department manager in a timely manner.
• Organizes and directs strike offs and the usage of Carton Req(s).
• Follows directions provided in work instructions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
