About The Position

This role involves reading and interpreting blueprints, performing material take-offs, planning pipe system installations, and working in various environments including aloft and in confined spaces. On-site training is provided.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to use rigging equipment.
  • Ability to work aloft (on scaffold or on manlifts) and in confined spaces.
  • Proficiency in cutting (circular, reciprocating, miter, and chop saws), grinding, and assembly of metal structural parts using fitting aids and rigging equipment to align parts according to blueprints.
  • Proficiency in tack and welding of foundations and installing temporary fasteners to hold structural members in place.
  • Proficiency in SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and GMAW-P process (multi-pass) for tack welding as needed.
  • Proficiency in using oxy-acetylene torch as needed.
  • Ability to fabricate components using various hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use pipe cutting machine and/or beveling machine to cut pipe to required length.
  • Ability to align parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and heavy hammers.
  • Ability to straighten warped or bent parts using sledge, hand torch, straightening press, and push-pull methods.
  • Ability to remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, portable grinders, and cutting torch.
  • Ability to assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment using welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Ability to inspect and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Ability to perform layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of pipe systems according to specifications.
  • Ability to install fittings and equipment.
  • Ability to install flanges, collars, penetrations, skid frames, foundations.
  • Ability to install and align large ship machinery.
  • Ability to install windows and doors.
  • Ability to install mast.
  • Ability to inspect all equipment daily (torch, torch hoses, grinder, levels, tapes, etc.).
  • Follow all shipyard safety policies, including proper use of PPE, fire prevention, and confined space protocols.
  • Work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced ship production environment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward customers and represent Saronic professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints and sketches to understand the specifications of a project.
  • Figure material take-offs on drawings for required cut lengths.
  • Mark reference points and transpose them to workpiece using measuring devices, squares, chalk, and/or soapstone.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair per specifications.
  • Use rigging equipment.
  • Work aloft (on scaffold or on manlifts) and in confined spaces.
  • Cut (circular, reciprocating, miter, and chop saws), grind, and assemble metal structural parts using fitting aids and rigging equipment to align parts according to blueprints.
  • Tack and weld foundations and install temporary fasteners to hold structural members in place.
  • Properly implement SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and GMAW-P process (multi-pass) for tack welding as needed.
