Day Shift Fitter
About The Position
Fitters are responsible for fitting, assembling, thermally cutting, and tack welding components used in the fabrication of shell-and-tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and towers. The position requires attention to detail, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to complete work according to specifications and established timelines. The role is based in an industrial shop environment and may involve exposure to welding fumes, gases, grinding dust, noise, sparks, heat, cold, and other shop hazards. It requires physical work, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, working in confined spaces and at elevated heights with required safety equipment, and standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and kneeling as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Knowledge of fitting and assembling metal components to applicable standards and codes.
- Experience with thermal cutting and tack welding processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, AutoCAD drawings, dimensions, and specifications.
- Ability to safely operate oxyfuel cutting torches and Plas-Arc equipment.
- Ability to perform tack welding in accordance with applicable codes and weld procedures.
- Strong math and geometry skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while effectively managing assigned work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Dependable and punctual, with the ability to work additional hours when needed to meet production or project requirements.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely in varying temperatures and shop conditions.
- Ability to safely enter and work within confined spaces associated with heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and towers.
- Ability to safely work at elevated heights while using required fall-protection equipment and tie-off procedures.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb, kneel, and work in various positions as required.
- Ability to wear required PPE and safety equipment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience fitting pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or similar industrial equipment.
Responsibilities
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements while working on the shop floor.
- Read and interpret blueprints, AutoCAD drawings, dimensions, and technical specifications.
- Fit and assemble metal components for heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and towers.
- Perform thermal cutting using oxyfuel cutting torches and Plas-Arc equipment.
- Perform tack welding in accordance with applicable codes and weld procedures.
- Maintain a fit-up rejection rate of less than 5%.
- Complete assigned work within established timeframes and according to specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
- Work effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and Quality Control personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
