About The Position

Are you an experienced Fitter who can look at a shop drawing and turn it into an accurately built steel assembly? Red Dot Buildings is looking for a skilled, dependable professional who takes pride in quality craftsmanship and knows how to fit structural steel correctly and safely. This is more than a standard welding position. You will measure, lay out, cut, position, and fit structural steel components according to detailed shop drawings. Your accuracy will help ensure every component fits correctly when the building reaches the jobsite.

Requirements

  • Structural steel fitting or fabrication experience; five years is preferred.
  • Confidence reading shop drawings and fabrication prints.
  • Experience fitting beams, plates, angles, or built-up steel components.
  • Strong tape-measure, layout, and basic math skills.
  • Welding, cutting-torch, and grinder experience.
  • Ability to calculate angles and cuts using basic trigonometry.
  • Overhead-crane experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with weld symbols or Welding Procedure Specifications is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing quality work.
  • A safety-first mindset and dependable attendance.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with a team.
  • Candidates with fewer than five years of experience are encouraged to apply if they have strong structural fitting, print-reading, measurement, and layout skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Overhead-crane experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with weld symbols or Welding Procedure Specifications is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret structural steel shop drawings.
  • Measure, lay out, cut, fit, and assemble built-up steel components.
  • Position and align beams, plates, angles, and other materials.
  • Make accurate cuts using cutting torches and grinders.
  • Tack and weld components according to project specifications.
  • Use tape measures, squares, and basic trigonometry to calculate dimensions and angles.
  • Follow Welding Procedure Specifications and established quality standards.
  • Inspect your work for proper dimensions, alignment, and fit.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and other lifting devices.
  • Identify and communicate drawing, material, or measurement concerns.
  • Maintain an organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
