About The Position

We are looking for a Fitter/Welder with 2 or more years of experience to join our team. The Fitter/Welder supports Cooper Steel South's goals, values, and philosophy by exhibiting excellence, quality service, commitment, and accountability. As a member of the Cooper Steel South's team, performance includes demonstration of communication, teamwork, job knowledge and leadership. The Fitter/Welder is responsible for understanding blueprints and welding techniques to execute the highest standards of welding performance. Starting pay will be $27+ per hour. There will be a $5 per hour shift premium for this night shift position.

Requirements

• Proven experience as welder
• Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (flux-core, MIG weld)
• Experience in using electrical or manual tools (grinder, squares, tape measure, hand tools)
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
• Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
• Attention to detail
• Ability to learn safe overhead crane operations
• Proficient in English

Nice To Haves

• Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus
• Prior experience using overhead cranes is preferred
• Prior experience in a similar role is preferred

Responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints to fabricate structural steel
• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
• Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
• Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions.
• Set up components for welding equipment in accordance to specifications (e.g. cut material with gad torch to match measurements)
• Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
• Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards
• Keep work areas clean and organized
