About The Position

Burnham Commercial is seeking a Fitter/Welder to join their team. This position will assemble the various parts and sections of a steel boiler (both high and low pressure) and/or other products to make a complete unit. The ideal candidate will be mechanically inclined and have prior experience with MIG and stick welding. Additionally, candidates should be able to interpret weld symbols and blueprints. This is a full-time, union-hourly position located in Lancaster, PA. Hours are Monday-Friday, 6 AM - 2:30 PM; Saturdays as needed (maximum of two required 6 AM – 12 PM).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • MUST be able to pass ASME 2G stick, 2G MIG, and 3G stick weld tests
  • Ability to read blueprints and/or diagrams
  • Experience with measuring tools

Responsibilities

  • Fit different sections of boiler plates and/or other products together and tack weld them so as to rigidly hold them in place for the Code Welder who will completely weld all seams and joints
  • Read blueprints and weld symbols
  • Work from verbal instructions and engineering prints, assemble boilers and/or other products by fitting together the various component parts of the two or three pass variety
  • Measure cuts and forms (when necessary) stay bolts which space the various sections
  • Using oxyacetylene burning equipment, cuts openings for access holes, fittings, etc.
  • Use plumb line, level, square, steel tape to accurately align marking lines previously drawn by layout man
  • Use portable grinding wheel to grind plate when necessary to insure proper fit
  • Fit the various parts in such a manner as to facilitate subsequent welding operations
  • Locate and secure all fittings on shell as required
  • May be required to operate powered lift trucks
  • Direct the work of a Helper (when required) who assists in the fitting of the product
  • Use overhead crane, hydraulic jacks, spud bar, screw jack and associated equipment to move, carry, force or place heavy steel plates when fitting and assembling
  • Set in several tubes in tube sheets in order to space and align boiler heads
  • Perform related work as directed commensurate with this or lesser rates labor grade
