About The Position

The Fitter/Welder supports Cooper Steel’s goals, values, and philosophy by exhibiting excellence, quality service, commitment, and accountability. As a member of Cooper Steel’s team, performance includes demonstration of communication, teamwork, job knowledge, and leadership. The Welder is responsible for understanding blueprints and welding techniques to execute the highest standards of welding performance. The weekend shift will be working Friday-Sunday from 5:30 AM - 5:30 PM, totaling 36 hours a week, with an additional $2 shift premium.

Requirements

Proven experience as welder and fitter
Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (flux-core, MIG weld)
Experience in using electrical or manual tools (grinder, squares, tape measure, hand tools)
Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
Attention to detail
Ability to learn safe overhead crane operations
Proficient in English
2 or more years of experience in fitting and welding is required

Nice To Haves

Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus
Prior experience using overhead cranes is preferred

Responsibilities

Interpret blueprints to fabricate structural steel
Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions
Set up components for welding equipment in accordance with specifications (e.g. cut material with gad torch to match measurements)
Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety
Ensure work is done safely and meets quality standards
Keep work areas clean and organized
