NewYork-Presbyterian’s Health4Life is a pediatric lifestyle intervention program in the Division of Community and Population Health that aims to empower participants to make healthier lifestyle choices for themselves and the whole family. We work in close collaboration with patient families, NYP healthcare teams, and community-based organizations. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for 2-20 year-olds and their families who are interested in improved health through healthier eating habits and increased physical activity. The Fitness Specialist will support the Health4Life team, working in close collaboration with the Health4Life program and medical leads, and will also support our Chronic Disease Prevention Portfolio’s sister programs: Chalk Jr and MyBlock, which provide exercise programming in community spaces. Reporting to the Chronic Disease Prevention Portfolio’s Program Director, the Fitness Specialist will serve as a subject area expert, creating/tailoring program materials, leading physical fitness activities, and keeping abreast of evidence-based research in the areas of physical activity, program development, public health, and education. The Fitness Specialist will work closely with program staff and community partners to implement and enhance physical activity programming both in a medical and community setting. With Health4Life, the Fitness Specialist will conduct clinical assessments as part of a multidisciplinary team with Health4Life patients in a medical session. In the community, the Fitness Specialist will support children and families through a variety of programming within and beyond Health4Life. CHALK Jr. engages families, caregivers, and local organizations to provide nutrition education, food insecurity screening, and access to healthy meals, while creating opportunities for active play through a co-designed approach with early childhood centers and community-based organizations (CBOs). My Block is a built environment program working collaboratively with CBOs on public space activations like yoga and dance in public parks and plazas. This position requires flexibility, as programming may occur during evening hours, weekends, and outdoors throughout the year.
