About The Position

Roxbury Tenants of Harvard Association, Inc. (RTH) is a dynamic, multi-service non-profit organization founded in 1969. We are dedicated to preserving the unique character of the Mission Hill neighborhood by providing high-quality, low- and moderate-income housing and extensive human services. Our community is diverse and vibrant, offering numerous recreational and educational facilities, wellness programs, and community engagement initiatives. Today, RTH remains a resident-led organization, governed by an eleven-member, all-resident Board of Directors; led by the people who call RTH home. Mission: RTH seeks to develop, preserve, and maintain safe and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income people of diverse backgrounds in the RTH/Mission Hill neighborhood, improving residents' quality of life through property management, social and educational services, workforce development, and community activism. Roxbury Tenants of Harvard (RTH) is seeking proactive and customer-oriented fitness floor staff to join their team. This role involves providing exceptional service and assistance to gym members on the fitness floor, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. Responsibilities include monitoring equipment usage, offering guidance on exercise techniques, and maintaining cleanliness and organization.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the fitness industry, preferably having experience in the field, and or studying the subject.
  • Knowledge and ability to bring members through orientations, tours of the facility, and create a fitness plan suitable for individual goals and needs.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations.
  • Must be CPR/ AED certified and become an instructor within 6 months.
  • Ability to interact with the residents and program participants physically and verbally.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of job including the physical stamina, agility and sudden exertion required to safely lead Health & Wellness programs.
  • At times, be able to lift amounts up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform the following physical activities: stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, and bend.
  • Strong skills in: communication, leadership, judgement, conflict resolution, and creativity.
  • Working knowledge of RTH policies, and appropriate health and wellness facility regulations and operational procedures.
  • Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate management techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • Nationally Accredited Personal Training certifications, i.e., CNC, CES, or CPT preferred.
  • Nationally recognized Group Fitness certification i.e., AFAA, ACE, or NASM preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome members, guiding them to the appropriate equipment, and sharing expectations with members regarding equipment usage and cleaning.
  • Ensure adequate cleaning products are placed in fitness facilities.
  • Clean high-touch areas and all other equipment between sessions.
  • Monitor room capacity and member traffic flow, communicating appropriately when there are any concerns.
  • Maintain the equipment, inclusive of cleaning and reporting any broken pieces to repair.
  • Supervise the wellness floor to ensure the safety of our members, as well as being visible and ready to assist them as needed.
  • Ensure all programs are safe, properly staffed and equipped. Ensure that RTH program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Build and maintain a high standard of customer service and serves as a role model for residents, program participants, staff, and volunteers. Contribute to a positive and safe work environment.
  • Ensures all assigned staff and volunteers complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, as directed.
  • Accept additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Models and teaches RTH core values.
  • Builds relationships and empathetically listens and communicates.
  • Provides staff with feedback, coaching, guidance, and support.
  • Demonstrates passion to work with youth, families, volunteers, and staff.
  • Agrees to a flexible work schedule.
