About The Position

The Fitness Center Associate monitors the fitness center and supports the YMCA’s mission. The role helps create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere by maintaining a neat, clean, and safe environment; properly caring for and cleaning equipment; and answering member questions and concerns. The associate also supports members’ participation in YMCA programs and helps maintain professional, lasting relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be certified in CPR PRO, AED, O2, and First Aid; training is provided by the Y if needed.
Strong verbal, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge and understanding of current physical education principles.
Experience establishing personal relationships.

Responsibilities

Remain visible in the fitness center and provide guidance and support to members.
Encourage members to participate in personal training and other YMCA programs.
Clean cardiovascular and weight equipment.
Ensure towels and full spray bottles are available to members.
Re-rack dumbbells and plates during off-peak hours and at the end of the shift.
Report equipment malfunctions to the Coordinator or Director by completing the Equipment Log.
Maintain an accurate service log and complete recommended routine maintenance as directed by the immediate supervisor.
Assist the Director with implementing fitness events and programs.
Maintain knowledge of fitness trends, innovations, programs, and ideas.
Handle and resolve member inquiries, concerns, and complaints.
Build and maintain professional relationships with members through a proactive approach.
Develop meaningful, sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.
Stay informed about current and upcoming YMCA events and programs.
Attend scheduled staff meetings and all-staff meetings.
Demonstrate the YMCA’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Perform other duties as assigned.
