About The Position

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Coordinator, fitness coaches interact with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals. Fitness coaches create a welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Experience and/or education in the wellness field.
  • Physical ability to lead and interact in fitness activities and perform related physical fitness skills.
  • Possess and maintain current CPR, AED and First Aid Certification.
  • Full working knowledge of facility safety and emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Coach members in support of their desired behavior change.
  • Regularly checks on members' progress in meeting personal and program goals.
  • Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living.
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Engages with members in a friendly manner: greets, welcomes, provides assistance or direction.
  • Assist members in proper use of equipment and ensuring safety of members.
  • Conducts New Member Orientations, InBody Assessments, Kinotek Assessments as requested.
  • Perform equipment checks and ensure appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Monitor fitness rooms, basketball gymnasium, racquetball courts to maintain a neat and orderly environment by ensuring equipment is returned to its proper location after use.
  • Clean Fitness Center equipment.
  • Monitor functionality of Fitness Center equipment and report equipment needing repair to Healthy Living Coordinator.
  • Create a safe environment by being aware of your surroundings and monitoring members to ensure they are performing exercises correctly, are dressed appropriately, are being respectful to other members and following all Fitness Center room guidelines.
  • Be visible and accessible while on duty.
  • Attends all department and staff meetings.
  • Must have good communication skills and ability to build relationships.
  • Must be familiar with and prepared to use emergency procedures.
  • Demonstrate and enforce the core values (Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility) to staff, YMCA members, program participants, volunteers, and the general public.
  • Know, follow and understand all guidelines and policies of the facility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
