About The Position

This professional development opportunity is within the Fisheries Compliance Unit of DPIRD Fisheries and Forests, presenting opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and experience in a range of capabilities, associated with delivering on regulatory responsibilities related to natural resources. You will be responsible for managing the SOIG South Team and the Regional Mobile Squad South, including allocating resources, setting priorities and developing projects.

Requirements

  • Currently Authorised as a Fisheries Officer under the Fisheries Management Act
  • Within the last 2 years, competently completed Baton Handcuff & Tactical Communications Training
  • Completed a Cert IV in Government Investigations
  • Hold a ASMA issued Coxswain certificate of capacity Grade 1/2 near coastal or higher.
  • Meet all other employment conditions under the Crown Employees Fisheries Staff Award for a District Fisheries Officer

Responsibilities

  • Review and endorse fisheries compliance activities using a risk-based approach to maximise voluntary compliance and create effective deterrence.
  • Undertake complex investigations
  • Review evidence, offence reports, briefing notes and correspondence
  • Developing, reviewing and approving operational planning material
  • Engaging in targeted patrol duties and planned operations
  • Leading and supervising a small team
