About The Position

This full-time, permanent Fisheries Biologist 1 position with Fisheries Management Area 1, headquartered in Linesville, Pennsylvania, offers an exciting opportunity to make an impact on local waterways. In this role, you will support detailed studies that improve fish habitats and ensure strong fishing experiences for the public. You will join a team dedicated to conservation and hands-on biological work. This job is well suited for people who enjoy learning, problem-solving, and working outdoors. This position supports fisheries management in northwest Pennsylvania by assisting with field studies, data analysis, and reporting. It plays an important role in protecting aquatic resources and improving fishing opportunities across the region.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in a biological science that includes or is supplemented by 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 12 college credits in fish biology, fisheries management, fish population dynamics, ichthyology, limnology, fish ecology, aquatic ecology, watershed ecology and management, wetland ecology and management, herpetology, freshwater entomology, fish culture, fish physiology, fish pathology, biometrics, or other courses closely related to fisheries science or aquatic ecology.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle license.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Collect field data, lead crews, and assist with lake, river, and stream investigations
  • Enter data into the Agency Resource Database and analyze information to develop conclusions and recommendations
  • Determine fish age and growth using collected structures and conduct comparative analyses
  • Support angler creel surveys by directing field crews and helping prepare draft reports
  • Assist with implementing fisheries recommendations and collaborate with specialists, agencies, and the public
  • Help investigate fish kills, pollution events, and respond to information requests
