About The Position

Help the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife fulfill its mission: To protect and enhance Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for use and enjoyment by present and future generations. We are hiring for one full-time, permanent position located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. In this role, you will be tasked with advancing ODFW priorities for fish screening, fish passage and aquatic restoration efforts in the Klamath Watershed. The position is a critical liaison between project proponents, the fish screening program, fish passage program and Habitat Division. You will be responsible for outreach and providing technical assistance to irrigation districts, water users, watershed councils and conservation groups in the Klamath Basin. Additionally, you will perform data collection, analysis, and evaluation for potential fish screening and passage projects and associated habitat restoration projects, as well as project coordination. You will be part of the Klamath Watershed District and as such, will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of other fish, wildlife, and habitat related activities throughout the Klamath Basin. This position will also require the successful candidate to either possess or obtain an All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Education card and a Boater Education Card within the first 6 months of hire.

Requirements

  • Six years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included one year of at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports
  • Two years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included one year of at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, AND a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Bachelor’s degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework
  • One year biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, AND a Master's degree Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Master’s degree in biological/ecological sciences
  • A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences.
  • Possess or obtain an All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Education card within the first 6 months of hire.
  • Possess or obtain a Boater Education Card within the first 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Proven experience collaborating with other entities which may include: Tribes, watershed councils, non-governmental organizations, water users, and private landowners to advance fish and/or wildlife habitat projects.
  • Experience in providing technical expertise for fish, wildlife, or habitat related projects.
  • Experience implementing aquatic or riparian restoration projects.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain successful interagency, Tribal, and non-governmental partnerships.
  • Excellent public speaking, writing, and outreach abilities.
  • Ability to use persuasive diplomacy while working with landowners, partner agencies, and the public.
  • Experience with fish passage and screening technology and solutions.
