About The Position

This position is a primary source of public information and public service in the Fairbanks ADF&G Public Information Center, providing customers with information about the area, explaining hunting and trapping regulations, issuing permits and harvest tickets, selling licenses and tags, and collecting and recording harvest reports. The incumbent seals animals such as bears, furs, and sheep on a regular basis, maintains vehicles and equipment, and classifies, analyses, and summarizes harvest data. Fieldwork includes responding to nuisance wildlife situations, acting as observer during aerial wildlife surveys, and occasional wildlife capture work. Wildlife Conservations mission is to conserve and enhance Alaska’s wildlife and habitats and provide for a wide range of public uses and benefits. Requirements

High school graduation or the equivalent.
Six months experience at the developmental level of fish and wildlife technician or aide (equivalent to Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 with the State of Alaska).
One year of technical laboratory and/or field experience involving fish or wildlife research, management, or habitat protection; as a commercial fisher, guide, or trapper; or a subsistence hunter or fisher.
A valid driver's license is required.
First Aid/CPR certification (training will be provided if not already certified).
Certification as a State of Alaska Peace Officer is required to enforce Title 5 Alaska Administrative Code and Title 16 Alaska Statutes regarding hunting, fishing and trapping regulations.
Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Science degree in fisheries, wildlife, or habitat protection may substitute for a maximum of two years of technical laboratory or field experience, involving fish or wildlife research, management, or habitat protection.

Responsibilities

Provide high-quality and accurate customer service to diverse groups by explaining complex hunting, fishing, and trapping regulations, issuing permits and licenses, and interacting professionally with a wide variety of customers.
Demonstrate knowledge of Alaska’s wildlife and habitats by engaging with hunters, trappers, anglers, and wildlife viewers, assisting with human-wildlife interactions, and intervening when necessary to ensure safety and compliance.
Work with animal carcasses or parts during sealing and sampling, as well as handling live animals for trapping, hazing, or humane euthanasia when required, while following all safety protocols.
Provide technical proficiency in data entry and analysis using Microsoft Office and ArcGIS and show attention to detail when following established protocols.
Demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team while also managing independent tasks in office and remote field settings.
Classify, analyze, and summarize harvest data.
Respond to nuisance wildlife situations.
Act as observer during aerial wildlife surveys.
Perform occasional wildlife capture work.
Maintain vehicles and equipment.
Seal animals such as bears, furs, and sheep.
Provide field and logistical support to research and management biologists throughout Interior and Northeast Alaska.
