About The Position

This position plays a critical role in the management of Alaska’s fisheries. The incumbent will produce demographic data that is used for in-season management and forecasting of multiple commercially important fisheries. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game fosters the highest standards of scientific integrity and promotes innovative, sustainable fish and wildlife management programs to optimize public uses and economic benefits. The MTA lab works to achieve these goals by recruiting, developing, and retaining a diverse, effectively deployed, and well-trained team. The incumbent for this position will be tasked with producing accurate data critical for sustainable, in-season fishery management. Requirements

  • High school graduation or the equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required.
  • Must be an Alaska Resident.
  • Misdemeanor crime of domestic violence conviction may disqualify applicant.

Responsibilities

  • Produce demographic data used for in-season management and forecasting of multiple commercially important fisheries.
  • Process biological samples in a wet lab.
  • Decode coded wire tags at a workstation equipped with a tag reader and computer for data entry.
  • Process herring samples.
  • Periodic cross training in all lab sections.
  • Occasional trips to the airport to pick up biological samples.
