About The Position

The Department of Transportation is recruiting for a Fiscal/Business Professional Trainee 3 as an underfill for an Accountant 1 in Carson City. This recruitment will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Accounting division. Under limited supervision, incumbents will perform a variety of duties at the sub-journey level while receiving training for advancement to an entry-level professional class related to fiscal or business management functions in State government. This class may only be used for entry into the Accountant, Auditor, Budget Analyst, Economist, Financial Institutions Examiner, Loan Officer, and Management Analyst series which are directly related to management of State government resources. The job duties section listed in this announcement reflect the Statewide Class Specifications for all positions and do not fully correlate with the specific duties of this position. Incumbents continue to receive training in performing the duties relevant to the class they are underfilling. This is the final trainee level in the series and incumbents may progress to the appropriate professional series they are underfilling upon meeting the minimum qualifications, satisfactory performance, and with the recommendation of the appointing authority.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of technical and/or paraprofessional experience in the field in which the applicant is to be trained; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, accounting, finance, or closely related field and one year of experience as described above; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, accounting, finance, or closely related; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • General knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts related to fiscal management and business administration.
  • General knowledge of accounting and financial record-keeping practices.
  • General knowledge of cost/benefit analysis techniques.
  • General knowledge of organizational principles.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical information related to accounting, finance, auditing, fiscal management, and business administration.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare financial documents and reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in explaining ideas, proposals, recommendations, and findings.
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop logical solutions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Internally generate data and external source material to timely review and correct payroll expense transactions (PREXP) transactions in CoreNV for each pay period.
  • Provide Project accounting needed backups upon demand for Federal Billing discrepancies.
  • Train and educate staff on proper coding for timecards, including project-specific codes.
  • Check State CoreNV for rejections with journal vouchers, correct and submit for processing, audit and process departmental JVD’s.
  • Provide overall support to divisions regarding accounting problems and management information systems.
  • Provide advice, consultation, direction, and training to agency staff to minimize errors and reduce the need for JVD’s.
  • Receive on-the-job training in duties related to fiscal and business management within State government.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
