About The Position

The Department of Extension Animal Sciences and Natural Resources invites you to apply for the position of Fiscal Assistant III. This position performs a broad range of accounting functions. Provides Fiscal Support to Department Head, faculty and staff for the department of Extension Animal Sciences and Natural Resources. Verifies that amounts, codes and indexes are correct, Sorts documents and posts transactions to corresponding accounts; balances and reconciles department records; makes necessary corrections if needed; Maintains cash receipts, cash deposits, property control records, accounts payable or accounts receivable; identifies accounts affected and debit and credit entries to ensure budgets are not over budget; Submits documentation for personnel travel reimbursements; Contacts various department personnel to resolve discrepancies or problems; Compiles numerical and statistical for reports; runs a variety of reports from computer records; May perform various clerical duties if needed.

Requirements

  • High School diploma + 3 years of relevant experience or an Associate's Degree + 1 year of relevant experience.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively in person or via email.
  • Effective at time management, working independently, and completion of time sensitive tasks.
  • Familiarity with NMSU accounting systems and mastery of spreadsheets for complex data organization and tracking departmental budgets.
  • The ability to interpret complex NMSU financial rules, procurement codes, and travel policies and relay relevant information to faculty, extension specialists, and external stakeholders to ensure that all are compliant with NMSU policy.
