About The Position

The Old Globe, a year-round professional theatre company producing more than 14 productions annually on three stages in beautiful Balboa Park in San Diego, seeks candidates for a Firsthand/Assistant Cutter to join our talented Costume Department. This critical role is responsible for pattern making, cutting, and fabrication in one of the finest regional shops.

Requirements

• Extensive experience in a professional theater costume department.
• Candidates must demonstrate high degree of skill in costume fabrication, pattern making, garment assembly, and stitching.
• Experience with period (1500’s- 1900’s) garment making is required, as is experience supervising stitchers.

Responsibilities

• Works directly with the Draper on all aspects of costume construction and alteration.
• Cuts fabric based on patterns and prepares patterns for linings, trims, and decorative details.
• Advises stitchers on the proper techniques and oversees their work to ensure quality and meet deadlines and production needs.
• Participates in general shop maintenance, as well as participating in storage maintenance, restocking, and other tasks as assigned.
