About The Position

The FirstGen College Success Fellow is a full-time AmeriCorps position with Corazón Healdsburg, part of the American Connection Corps (ACC) program by Lead For America (LFA). This program aims to help communities build digital connectivity to expand opportunity and economic mobility. ACC Members serve with local organizations for a year, addressing the digital divide and strengthening access to opportunity, gaining hands-on experience, building skills, and exploring career pathways. Corazón Healdsburg's mission is to build a compassionate and just community by empowering individuals and families, advocating against injustices, and celebrating diversity. They achieve this through a bilingual Family Resource Center offering case management, basic needs assistance, and guidance during crises. They also work to address financial instability through computer and financial literacy classes. The AmeriCorps Member will specifically support the First Gen Early College Counseling program by assisting with college readiness workshops, building students' digital literacy skills, and providing individualized and small-group assistance for FAFSA completion, scholarship applications, and summer program opportunities. This role helps ensure first-generation students have the necessary tools, resources, and confidence to navigate the college preparation process.

Requirements

• Be a U.S. Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
• Hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Be 17 years of age or older by the start of service.
• Have not already served four (4) or more AmeriCorps State/National terms.
• Passion for community service and connecting your neighbors to the digital tools, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Interest in gaining experience in community development or digital inclusion.

Responsibilities

• Work with students participating in the summer program to complete their Summer Journals, providing guidance, feedback, and support.
• Track student participation and progress, maintaining service-related documentation for staff review and approved program reporting purposes.
• Assist in reviewing journals for content, organization, and readiness for college-related reflections.
• Assist staff with developing, organizing, and updating a comprehensive onboarding handbook for incoming students.
• Collaborate with staff and current students to ensure handbook content is clear, user-friendly, and culturally relevant.
• Support completion and distribution of the handbook within the first quarter of service.
• Support the contract (student participation agreements) renewal process for returning students, including outreach, follow-up, and collection of necessary documentation.
• Maintain organized records of student contracts in accordance with established program procedures.
• Support timely completion of returning student contract renewals.
• Assist with college readiness workshops, digital literacy training, FAFSA guidance, scholarship applications, and summer program opportunities.
• Maintain accurate service-related student records, track participation metrics, and contribute to program reporting.
• Collaborate with program staff, mentors, and volunteers to ensure effective implementation of approved service activities and support student success.
• Participate in required AmeriCorps trainings and approved service activities.
