About The Position

Sierra Vista Unified School District is seeking passionate, dedicated educators to join our PreK-12 team at Huachuca Mountain K-8 School. This position is for a First Grade Teacher. The district is an award-winning district with 5 outstanding schools, offering competitive salaries and incentives. When applying for a teaching position, the applicant's preferred grade will be given preference; however, the District may extend an offer for a different grade level based on school needs after a successful interview and reference check.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Appropriate teaching certificate as issued by the State of Arizona to include appropriate vocational certification and endorsements.
• Have knowledge, skill and or experience in the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) strategies or be willing to receive training in those strategies.

Responsibilities

• Assist students toward the attainment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
• Implement by instruction and action the District philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; in harmony with the goals, establish desired student performance objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; communicate these objectives to students.
• Assess students to determine whether desired student performance objectives are being achieved.
• Plan, after identifying student needs, a program of study.
• Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
• Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis and refer to appropriate specialists where need exists.
• Evaluate, conscientiously and fairly, the accomplishments of students and provide progress reports as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
• Provide an atmosphere, physical and psychological, conducive to learning.
• Maintain accurate permanent academic and attendance records for students.
• Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
• Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Governing Board Policy.
• Attend and participate in general faculty and department meetings.
• Cooperate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
• Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional equipment.
• Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
• Maintain and improve professional competence.
• Maintain active and harmonious involvement in community affairs.
• Perform other reasonable duties as may be directed by the Principal.
• Utilize, with fidelity, the District Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) program at the building level.
• Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position is held in the highest of confidentiality.
• Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies; including mandatory reporting procedures.
