About The Position

The Flight Paramedic is fully engaged in the transportation of pre-hospital and inter-facility patients for definitive care and maintains positive relationships with area hospitals, physicians, EMS agencies, and the general public. The Flight Paramedic provides high quality care including assessment, triage, and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established by First Flight to establish and prioritize the care needed for safe transport of the critical patient to the appropriate facility.

Requirements

  • Completion of a paramedic (EMT-P) program.
  • Current State of Florida Paramedic License (EMT-P), or National Registry Certification (NREMT).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) prior to start date and maintained.
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within six (6) months of hire and maintained.
  • AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within six (6) months of hire and maintained.
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) within six (6) months of hire and maintained.
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) Air Medical Crew Core Curriculum within six (6) months of hire and maintained.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills and professional presence.
  • Ability to maintain composure in a stressful field environment.
  • Ability to operate multiple band radio communication systems.
  • Ability to work with complex medical equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Rotor Wing or Fixed Wing Critical Care Transport.
  • Ground Critical Care Transport.
  • Critical Care Transport Certification (FP-C).
  • Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS) and/or Pediatric Fundamental Critical Care Support (PFCCS).
  • Proficient with GPS Navigation.
  • EMS tailored Electronic Medical Record (EMR)/ Pre-Hospital Care Report (PCR).

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with physicians and other departments in determining patient needs for nursing care and treatment planning.
  • Serves as a role model, educator and clinical resource.
  • Participates in special projects or performs other duties as assigned.
  • Communicates educational needs to the Flight Program Nurse Manager.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of emergency procedures and First Flight safety requirements; maintains a hazard free work environment.
  • Anticipates change for patient care, department and organizational needs.
  • Facilitates communication among department Director, Flight Program Nurse Manager, Managers, nursing staff and other ancillary departments.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance.
  • Collaborates with the Flight Program Nurse Manager to ensure flight team compliance with guidelines of accrediting and regulatory agencies, flight team standards of care and practice, and organization policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates age-specific skill competency in clinical practice environment.
  • Demonstrates dependability and reliability in completing work assignments and exhibits good work habits and decorum with respect to attendance.
  • Available to meet critical operational demands.
  • Assists the Flight Program Nurse Manager in the selection, development and retention of staff.
