About The Position

Prepares and cooks food for patients, cafeteria, and hospital functions. Sets up hot food serving tables. This role requires adherence to infection control standards, including wearing hairnets and gloves, and utilizing separate cutting boards for different food types. The cook is responsible for observing and tasting food during cooking to ensure quality and correct temperature, as well as managing leftovers appropriately and handling late food requests.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Minimum five (5) years cooking experience in a hospital setting, required.
Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.

Nice To Haves

Cooking school training, preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepares soups, sauces, meats, fish, vegetables, salads, and convenience foods for patients and the cafeteria.
Removes food from refrigeration and freezers according to meal requirements and defrosts food following procedures.
Prepares food for cooking and seasons it correctly.
Prepares the correct amount of food based on production sheets and cafeteria usage.
Uses a variety of kitchen utensils safely and efficiently.
Works in a neat, clean, and organized manner.
Places food in appropriate cooking pans and cooks according to recipe, often in small batches.
Observes and tastes food during cooking to ensure quality and correct temperature.
Follows infection control standards, including wearing hairnets and gloves.
Utilizes leftovers appropriately and suggests menu or recipe changes to prevent spoilage.
Uses separate cutting boards for poultry and meat, raw and cooked food.
Sets up hot food and serving tables, ensuring appropriate steam table temperatures.
Serves food following portion control guidelines and determines whether to discard or store unused food.
Wraps, labels, and dates stored food.
Handles late requests for food in a timely fashion.
Performs related duties as required.
