About The Position

The First Cook assists with directing, planning, supervising, and preparing food for all areas within the Food Service Department. The role is responsible for preparing meals according to planned menus and approved recipes, maintaining food-safety documentation and standards, and supporting a safe and efficient work environment.

Requirements

Two years of experience as a First Cook or equivalent is preferred.
A high school education or equivalent is preferred.
General knowledge of high school subject matter is preferred, possibly including sciences, simple medical procedures or terminology, or office equipment.

Nice To Haves

Institutional food-service experience is preferred, including experience in a hospital, nursing home, college feeding operation, or full-service restaurant.

Responsibilities

Follow planned menus and prepare menu items to standards in compliance with approved recipes.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned, including cleaning work areas and caring for and sanitizing equipment in the cook's area.
Fill in as necessary within the cook's battery.
Ensure meals served daily are prepared properly and on time.
Document temperatures and cook and chill times daily, and maintain the records on file on an ongoing monthly basis.
Rotate, date, and label items in accordance with Department of Health standards.
Promote a safe and efficient work environment by following hospital and department policies and procedures.
Demonstrate dignity and respect toward patients, family members, visitors, and hospital personnel.

Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
Perform other duties as required.
