About The Position

The First Cook is responsible for preparing and serving all meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, baked goods, and desserts, in a remote camp kitchen setting. This role involves planning menus that cater to resident preferences, dietary restrictions, and budget constraints. Key responsibilities also include managing food inventory, ordering supplies, ensuring proper storage, labeling, and FIFO rotation in adherence to the Matrix food safety plan. The First Cook is expected to train, support, and supervise kitchen staff, fostering a safe, clean, and team-oriented work environment.

Requirements

  • Experience preparing meals for small and large groups in a remote camp kitchen setting
  • Culinary Diploma or Red Seal Designation
  • Food Safe Handling Certificate
  • Advanced First Aid Certificate
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, HACCP procedures, and proper food storage practices
  • Ability to lead, train, and coach kitchen staff when required
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, cleanliness, and teamwork
  • Bilingual in both French and English is a requirement
  • References and a criminal record check is mandatory for this position
