About The Position

Under the supervision of the Department of Orthopaedics, and the attending physician, the APP will provide surgical first assistance during procedures. In addition to direct patient care, responsibilities include documenting care, adhering to hospital and nursing policies, educating patients and staff, and participating in performance improvement initiatives. The APP will support the OR team by performing any necessary tasks that enhance surgical efficiency and quality. In emergencies, the APP will initiate appropriate evaluation and treatment. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited APRN or PA program.
Licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider.
A current RNFA certification (for APRNs only).
A BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner (for NPs).
Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing (for NPs).
Active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing (for NPs).
Completion of a RN first assist program (for NPs).
Current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner (for NPs).
Completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program (for PAs).
Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing (for PAs).
Current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (for PAs).
Demonstrate clinical competence.
Superior verbal and written communication skills.
Interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills.
Computer competence.
Active desire to learn.

Nice To Haves

Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, complex environment.
Proficiency in surgical aseptic technique.
Previous experience in one or more of the following specialties: Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Ambulatory Surgery.
