About The Position

The American Red Cross is seeking a part-time Training Services First Aid and CPR Instructor for the Portland, OR area. This role is responsible for delivering corporate classes, providing high-quality instruction, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with all procedures and regulations. The American Red Cross is dedicated to helping people in need and increasing community preparedness through courses in First Aid, CPR/AED, and other certification programs. Instructors are vital in teaching valuable lifesaving skills to millions of people annually.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Current certification to be an instructor in discipline is desired.
  • Basic computer and email skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize MS Office programs.
  • Comfort and experience in using audio-visual technology (computer/LCD, PowerPoint, etc.) for educational delivery.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Proof of Insurance.
  • Strong presentation abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate course material in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Ability to teach effectively in an adult learning environment.
  • Flexible schedule required during the day, evening, or weekends.
  • Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand and understand the speech of another person.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional training and certification will be provided to qualified candidate after hire through American Red Cross Health & Safety Service courses.
  • Once certified, the instructor must maintain current basic and instructor level certifications for the courses they have been hired to teach.
  • Previous experience in education, adult training or service industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of Red Cross training.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches Red Cross Health and Safety courses within current certifications to businesses and the community.
  • Confirms course at least 3-5 business days before the scheduled course.
  • Arrives at the teaching site a minimum of 30 minutes before class begins.
  • Maintains, manages, and stores all assigned equipment, including storage at assigned work location and transporting equipment in a personal vehicle.
  • Re-orders necessary equipment at least once per month and maintains an active inventory of supplies at all times.
  • Transports, loads/unloads, carries, and/or lifts equipment as necessary at assigned teaching locations.
  • Cleans equipment according to established decontamination guidelines at the conclusion of class.
  • Reports any maintenance issues to the appropriate logistics staff member.
  • Applies quality assurance and control programs.
  • Integrates quality improvement activities and measures in overall service provision.
  • Ensures proper safety measures are in place to protect customers and staff.
  • Manages resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Adheres to financial and registration policy regarding unregistered students in Community classes.
  • Engages in regular communications with Training Specialist regarding course updates and changes.
  • Submits unavailability requests in Schedule when not available to be assigned to classes.
  • Submits training activity and other course-related records according to standard timelines.
  • Submits training and course-related records electronically using the American Red Cross web-based learning center where applicable.
  • Uses the corporate email account (@Redcross.org) for all American Red Cross related correspondence.
